Classic Army – M249 Para – MK46 Mod0

{simplegrade:4}
Manufacturer: Classic Army (Hong Kong)
Type: AEG
Date Aquired:?10/03/05

Wanted to get some info out quickly, so this will be a quickie. There seems to be a nice trend where retailers are doing nice reviews of products now, so as not to duplicate info, checkout AEX's CA249 Review.

Straight outta the box

Pro's:

  • Metal in all the right places.
  • Well engineered metal top cover with rail (See Pic).
  • US Style Hand Guards and Heat Shield (Real M249 Paras don't have the upper Heat Shield).
  • Plastic parts have a flat finish.
  • PGC Style gearbox!!! Shoots hard and "easily" upgradeable.
  • Classic Army Catalog Shows their AK Razz Also, seems it was used for chrono testing LOL (Nice bb strike went through the whole catalog)

Top Rail Cover

Con's:

  • Pieces fit very tightly together. This can be viewed as a Pro, but in this case it seems to be an engineering deal (i.e. you have to adjust the position of a few items to get an item like the top cover to close properly).
  • The outer and inner barrel removal to replace the battery take a little practice (See AEX's CA249 Review).
  • Looks to have very limited room in the handguard for battery. Only Mini batterys will fit. But Laylax Battery Sling works well in this situation.
  • Heavy! Not for the 98lb weakling. At 14' lbs w/o battery or ammo, it'll give you a field workout. This is about 1 pound lighter then the real steel version.

With Obligatory M249 Box mag

I may do the mod where you can fit the AEG Battery in the box mag and wire the box mag to the M249's trigger. At this point I still like the option of using M16 style low and mid caps.

Getting closer to the MK46 Mod0?variant!!!

The MK46 Mod0 ala GR Advanced Warfighter 😉

Tokyo Marui – IMI UZI

{simplegrade:3}
Manufacturer: Tokyo Marui (Japan)
Type: AEG

Dunno what possesed me. As my buddy Bruiser @ AEX said, "Why the heck you get the Marui Uzi??? Oh yeah… you're a chairsofter…"

UZI Does It!

Just got it… It's already been reviewed elswhere

But I can say, chrono results are low compared to other stock TM AEG's, probably due to the short barrel and the "Real-Shock" simulated blow back system.

Even though this AEG has been around for a while (Released in 1998), because it uses the Version 5 gearbox, there are virtually ZERO internal upgrades for the TM UZI.

Wow!!! is all I can say for now… There's a few VERY In Depth reviews already out:

Hammermod's TM M14 Review

Straight outta the box

So instead of me re-writing the Airsoft Extreme's TM M14 Review or
Hammermod's TM M14 Review. I will try and speak on subjects they may have not touched on.

Marui did it again!!! This is going to become an M21/M25 eventually!!! Parts on order! And also waiting for the plethora of 3rd party parts that usually follow a Marui release.

Wow pretty powerful for a stock AEG!

M21 Modification

Bolt-ons = M21 variant

Added the following:

  • King Arms Scope Mount
  • Guarder Cheek Rest
  • Dummy 7.62 round (Pressed by me)
  • King Arms Offset Cantilever Mount
  • USGI M14 Sling
  • Harris 2a Bipod Adapter
  • Classic Army Bipod (Harris Replica)
  • ZOS 1.5-6×42 Zip Focus, Illuminated Mil-Dot Reticle Scope

M21 variant

One thing to note. The synthetic stock is flexing with the bipod attached. While TM did have a mounting hole for a bipod on the foregrip of the stock. I'm not too sure they meant for a bipod to actually go there by the flex in the stock.

With the TGS EBR (Enhanced Battle Rifle) Kit

Adding the TGS EBR Kit does have many improvements over the original TM stock. It's a well built addon kit and realtively easy to install (The included directions make the install more difficult). It does add weight to the over all rifle when installed, but the folding stock makes the rifle easier to handle. The added body rigidity, but the foregrip carried large battery does make thr EBR front heavy. Oh did I mention this AEG is now heavy?

Sun Project – M203 Grenade Launcher, R.I.S. Version

{simplegrade:3}
Manufacturer: Sun Project (Japan)
Type: Grenade Launcher
Date Acquired: 09/2003

Sun Project – M203 Grenade Launcher, R.I.S. Version

The Sun Project – M203 Grenade Launcher, R.I.S. version is a replica based on the U.S. Military's M203. Real steel info here. This version is different from the normal M203 in that this attaches to any R.I.S. rail.

It's a decent build and when I purchased it, was the only M203 available for airsoft. It is breech loaded and take the standard 40mm airsoft grenade. The barrel and front grip are plastic, and with some of the newer more powerful grenades, the plastic barrel sometimes wan't to follow the bb's when fired.

CAW – Mini Grenade Launcher and Grenades

{simplegrade:4}
Manufacturer: Craft Apple Works/Mosquito Molds (Japan)
Type: Gas

The CAW Mini Launcher mounted on my Modified MC-51

Even though it's called a mini-launcher it is an impressive grenade launcher that will attach to almost any type of rail system. It is all metal and adds some weight to the rifle. It is very simple in design which is a plus out in the field. Compared to a stock M203 type launcher it would be about 1/4 the length, but will fire all airsoft 40mm grenades.

Closeup of the CAW Mini Launcher mounted on my Modified MC-51

The grenade i use are also made by CAW and are gas operated. The one I have are teh 6mm and 8mm versions which you can pack with 24 bbs and fire all 24 bbs at one at over 300fps. It's truly impressive to hear the bang and see the volley of bb's travle towards your target. In CQB (Close Quarters Combat) I would not want to be on the receiving end of one of these babies.

The CAW Mini Launcher with 6mm and 8mm Grenades

The simplicity of the CAW Mini Launcher makes loading and unloading of the grenade cartridges easy and fast.

Tokyo Marui – M4 S-System

{simplegrade:5}
Manufacturer: Tokyo Marui (Japan)
Type: AEG
Date Acquired: 12/2004

Just a quick posting on this for now. 10am on 12/15/04 and UPS brings me this:

These are the kind of UPS deliveries I like.

I didn't even have enough time to pull all the temporary putty off yet, but i wanted to post this and assure anyone who ordered from Den that you should all get yours soon if not already Wink

Even better when you open the box. Note, I haven't had time to take off all the temp putty

UPS delivered this to me at work and sadly I'm too busy to play with it right now. But i'll have everything cleaned up and more information after I get outta here… My boss is an ass Smile

Even Marui is putting Blackwater hats in the M4-S pics .

So far I can confirm the following:

  • Tabs are metal reinforced on the body.
  • 1 piece aluminum outer barrel.
  • S.I.R. will ONLY take an 8.4 Mini Battery. The battery well is an area bored out of the outer barrel.
  • Flip up rear sight is spring loaded like the real Knight's version.
  • Flip up front sight.
  • LE style rear stock.

Evening of 12/15/04

OK had some time to review the M4 S-System tonight. This will be an ongoing thing as long as questions keep coming in.

The S.I.R. is plastic and metal.

The S.I.R. is a bit different then the all metal S.I.R.'s that have been available. Above I marked the rails which are the only things on the S.I.R. that are metal. The Rest of the S.I.R. is plastic.

The beefier 1 piece outer barrel makes up for the lack of an all metal S.I.R. We're talking zero barrel wobble!!!

The front and rear folding sights are metal!!! The rear site is spring loaded and function like the real ARMS read S.I.R. sight.

Battery Physical Size Capacity. Note the underside of barrel has a notch cut out about 4" long

To accomodate a battery in the foregrip, TM had to mill/cut a section of the outer barrel. TM made this cut EXACTLY the length of an 8.4 mini battery. The only way I can forsee using a 9.6 mini battery is cut/dremel away more of the outer barrel to accomodate the added length. Other then that the only other things are the more tradtional: ready mag, crane stock, peq external battery. We'll have to wait and see if the airsoft accessorie market comes up with a more elegant alternative.

The final few external add-ons to this system for now:

Not sure what to do about internal upgrading for now due to the battery size limitation. I don't feel like doing any of the external battery tricks yet, but I do have a Laylax Sling on order, so that may solve the battery problem.

Maruzen – CA870 – Project Shotty

{simplegrade:4}
Manufacturer: Maruzen (Japan)
Type: Spring Pump Shotgun
Date Acquired: 12/2004

Maruzen – CA870 with TGS Stock System

If you saw a previous posting on my M1100, I was planning on adding the TGS stock system to that gun, but after looking at the gas feed system and the fact that specific M1100 is no longer in production (and may never be again). I decided it would be better if I just picked up a CA870 where I knew i wouldn't bugger up a perfectly good gas system.

I purchased this as a CA870 full stock.

Maruzen – CA870 with TGS Stock System

The CA870 itself is a good spring shotty, but it's only single shot unlike the Marui spring shotguns. if I were to skirmish with a shotgun I wouldn't take this gun though since I have a Marui Spas 12 and M1100.

The fun part of this project for me is the fact all addons are from the Real Steel world. Some minor alterations were needed to the Real Steel parts to make them work. These are posted here www.honolulu888.com.

Tip: The screw used for the stock is a 6mm coarse threaded screw. Hope that saves you time at the hardware store Wink

Items included in the project:

  • Maruzen CA870 CQB Full Stock
  • TGS M4 Stock adapter
  • M4 Collapsible Stock System
  • M4 Collapsible Stock Shoulder Pad
  • M4 Collapsible Stock Cheek Rest
  • Bushmaster HK91 Style Cushioned Sure Grip

Great CA870 Upgrade info is www.honolulu888.com

I'm personally not planning on doing any more upgrades to this gun. It just suppressed my urge to get a real FN Tactical pump shotgun for the moment Wink

Tokyo Marui – SPAS12 w/Folding Metal Stock – Upgraded

{simplegrade:4}
Manufacturer: Tokyo Marui (Japan)
Type: Spring, 3 Shot

TM SPAS12 w/Folding Metal Stock – Upgraded

I guess you can say I'm in a shotty mood lately Razz

This SPAS12 was "Mis-Firing"/Broken when I purchased it second hand. I originally was only going to buy it for the folding metal stock (Since they are hard to find), and buy a new SPAS12, but I found the spare parts being sold at Dentrinity, so I decided to repair/upgrade the unit.

TM SPAS12 w/Folding Metal Stock – Note Shortened "Comando" Barrel

I repaired all internal parts and added a freakishly strong PDI 180% Spring. Parts added/upgraded:

  • BB Stopper Gate
  • 3x Piston Cups
  • Loading Gate
  • Piston
  • Cylinder
  • PDI 180% Pro Variable Pitch Spring

TM SPAS12 w/Folding Metal Stock

When I was stripping the gun I came across alot of glued parts from what seems like a previous repair attempt. I removed the glued parts and the gun is now field stripable.

This gun shoots very hard now. It is also much harder to cock, but I'm very satisfied with the upgrade. No chrono results yet. Will try and post those soon.

Maruzen – Remington M1100 Defender

{simplegrade:4}
Manufacturer: Maruzen (Japan)
Type: GBB Semi -Auto Shotgun
Date Acquired: 07/2004

Maruzen – Remington M1100 Defender (Magazine Type)

I decided on getting this gun since it does NOT use the ejecting shotgun shells that the Defender II uses. The down side is the magazine only carries 18 bb's which gives you only 6 shots since it shoots 3 bb's at a time. You can easily alter the bolt to feed only 1 shot at a time though.

This gun wil take greengas no problem and the blow back is pretty insane. 1 problem using green gas is the piston head blows back so fast that it will only allow a single bb to load even with the 3 bb piston in place.

Maruzen – M1100 Defender + M4 Collapsibel Stock and Grip System

BUT the real reason I bought this was to modify and add a Real Steel, M4 Stock and Grip system to this gun. EDIT: This project was scrapped and moved to a Maruzen CA870.

STTI/KJW – HK MK23 NBB

{simplegrade:1}
Manufacturer: STTI/KJW
Type: Gas Non Blow Back
Street Price: $70.00
SOLD! Hope I'm now over my "I wanna check out KJW guns" syndrome.

The STTI/KJW Mk23 and USP Tactical

The STTI/KJW Mk23 NBB is a copy of the TM MK23 NBB I already own. This is yet another curiosity in the quality and performance of a KJW gun compared to the usual Japanese mfg guns I usually buy.

First impressions… The quality is very "rough" compared to the TM. The plastic slide is made of Blaze Orange plastic, painted black… And there are NO trades at all on the gun. Trigger pull is even heavier then the TM and it feels like theres grains of sand in the action.

The silencer which is not a silencer at all but an inner barrel extender. You get some added fps when attached. See below for results. But not the ultra quiet shot as you would with the TM MK23.? The barrel extension is all plastic including the threads, so over time this may be an issue.? And as we all know, higher FPS doesn't equal better accuracy.

The STTI/KJW Mk23 Silencer Attached

But at $70.00 is it that good of a deal? Considering I bought a TM MK23 by itself from Dentrinity (They had a deal where you could buy the gun w/o silencer and LAM for $58.00 + Int'l Shipping),?I would have to?say no on the STTI/KJW.

This should be the last of my "I wonder if KJW is any good" comparisons.
