VFC – MK13 MOD 0, EGLM Deluxe

The VFC – MK13 MOD 0, EGLM Deluxe is a replica of the FN SCAR EGLM (Enhanced Grenade Launcher Module). This deluxe version from VFC includes the following:

  • Quad Railed, Extended Butt stock Chassis
  • Leaf sight
  • Stand alone Trigger Module
  • 5.56 Trigger Module
  • 7.62 Trigger Module

alt
VFC – MK13 MOD 0, EGLM Deluxe

Let’s get the bad news out of the way first. The VFC EGLM will NOT fit on a Classic Army SCAR. The CA SCAR’s lower rail teeth do not match VFC’s SCAR. We discovered this in 2008 when Star released their EGLM which works on VFC, but not CA. See here. Will be looking into finding a way to replace the CA SCAR’s lower rail to be compatible.

The good news… Like the VFC’s SCAR’s beautiful anodized upper receiver, the EGLM has an anodized aluminum upper quad rail system. The included leaf sight uses a Larue style mount, which you may need to adjust for fitment.

and CA Short M203 RIS on EBB Launcher Frame

The trigger modules are easy to change out. They all utilize a single captive pin, so no worries in loosing parts.

The EGLM worked flawlessly with Mosquito Molds, Madbull, CA and G&P 40mm grenades. The launcher tube release is spring loaded with a very crisp action. The sliding butt stock is only 1 position.

Another possible problem for skirmishers is the tube is too short to launch Nerf Rockets.

Big thanks to Ting at Rhino Airsoft for taking special care on sending this order.

Update 09/18/2009

Did a side by side comparison of the VFC and CA SCARs, to see what the difference was on the lower hand guard rails. Rail wise they use a matching rail system and teeth spacing. But the CA lower rail system is mounted about .25″ to front of where the VFC rail mounts. Thus causing the rail teeth to not line up. Only possible solution I have is to remove some rail teeth off the CA SCAR to make the VFC EGLM work properly.

Update 11/20/2009

Spartan Imports sent me down an extra lower rail for the CA SCAR-L. Even when I cut teeth off and shortened the length, the EGLM would still not fit like it should. You can mount the EGLM without the trigger modules though.

Tokyo Marui – 5-7

Manufacturer: Tokyo Marui (Japan)
Type: Gas Blow Back Handgun

Tokyo Marui – 5-7

The Tokyo Marui 5-7 has been highly anticipated since its’ announcement a few years ago at Japanese airsoft conventions. the TM version of the 5-7 does not disappoint.

Tokyo Marui – 5-7

Unlike the Marushin 5-7, the TM is a solid build. It readily takes green gas and build quality is high. For being a mostly plastic gun, it has solid base, due to a metal magazine. Slide action and safety functions are smooth.

KWA – USP Tactical

Manufacturer: KWA (USA)
Type: GBB

KWA USP Tactical

The KWA USP Full Size comes standard from AEX with a metal slide.

KWA USP Tactical

Trademarks are laser etched on the metal slide and includes a 16mm CW threaded barrel which is the same as a KSC MK23 Silencer. I have seen Redwolf advertise 14mm CCW KSC USP Tactical’s, so hopefully that means 14mm outer barrels may be available soon.

Tokyo Marui – M4 SOCOM

{simplegrade:5}
Manufacturer: Tokyo Marui (Japan)
Type: AEG (Automatic Electric Gun)
Date Acquired: 05/2009

Tokyo Marui – M4 SOCOM

The Tokyo Marui – M4 SOCOM is the 2nd Recoil based M4 AEG by TM. These AEGS have both a cosmetic blowback and a system to physically replicate recoil. The recoil system gives these specific AEG’s a unique firing sound and a the feel of firing recoil is hard to describe (See video below). The feel of the recoil system is definitely a plus.

Tokyo Marui – M4 SOCOM

The M4 SOCOM unlike the original SOPMOD, carries an 8.4 mini battery in the foregrip. Replacing the hand guards with Magpul MOE hand guards will enable the use of 9.6 mini’s.

Magazines:

The TM M4 SOPMOD and M4 SOCOM use a completely different magazine system. These magazines are NOT compatible with Version 2 type Armalite style AEG’s. They also cannot use the magazines from previous Armalite style AEG’s. The Standard SOCOM magazine is selectable between 30 and 85 rounds. These standard magazines will cause the AEG to stop firing and lock the "bolt" when empty. It is really cool to hear, feel and see when you are out of bb’s. The high capacity magazines for the SOCOM carry 430 rounds and do NOT lock back on empty magazine. I’m not a fan of highcaps, but these specific ones are nice in that they will expel almost all bb’s when initially wound.

Tokyo Marui – M4 SOCOM

Add-Ons:

As you can see I’ve already added couple of accessories:

Update 08/2009

I’ve been slow to update lots of things lately. One of AEX tech Gurus, Easy E, installed a stronger spring in my SOCOM. Now avg’s 390 fps. The recoils seems to have gotten harder as well, but that maybe also due to the higher ROF from now running 9.6 nunchucks in the CASV.

King Arms – Galil SAR

Manufacturer: King Arms (Hong Kong)
Type: AEG

King Arms – Galil SAR

Over a year ago, I was able to review the first KA (King Arms) complete AEG, the FAL. It was a little disappointing at the time, but for KA initial release, it was better than other Chinese airsoft companies current releases. The more recent "Troy" releases from KA have been pretty impressive and seem to be a good value for what you are getting. So onto the KA Galil SAR.

King Arms – Galil SAR

Initial impressions are it’s a very solid build. Parts fit together nice and tight, but the stock does have a slight "wiggle" Like the FAL release, the Galil is lighter in weight, then you would expect. Trademarks look good and no misspellings I’ve noticed so far. The right side AK style selector switch is functional, but the left side, thumb switch is cosmetic only (Although it will move between S A R). This model does include secondary flip up night sights, but these do NOT have tritium as the real 1 does.

I’ve held both, the TSI Armoires SAR (Thanks to USCMCorps) and the KA Galil. The TSI Galil is a spot on replica of a Real Steel Galil in size, weight and tritium night sights. The KA Galil is lighter in weight but has some added features the TSI does not. .

King Arms – Galil SAR

You can fit up to a 12v AK stick style battery, but for now I’ve only managed a 9.6. The KA Galil SAR is also a Blowback AEG. The action is crisp and while it adds no performance improvements, is definitely fun to fire.

The magazine supplied with the AEG is a 130 rounder. The magwell and catch look very close to an AK’s, but on the KA Galil is not 100% compatible. BUT you can modify an AK mag to work on the KA Galil with a little Dremel work. So for my buddy Mr. Longbaugh, the TSI AK/M4 Mag Adapter could work, but filing the machined aluminum block may take a while.

Tokyo Marui – AKS74U

{simplegrade:5}
Manufacturer: Tokyo Marui (Japan)
Type: AEG (Automatic Electric Gun)
Date Acquired: 10/2008

Tokyo Marui – AKS74U

I honestly thought I reached my limit for AEG’s and I had seen the previous TM Blowback AEG the AK74MN and it only slightly piqued my interest. In fact I wrote off the TM AKS74U as being yet another AK74U release. But when i saw this being test fired at AEX, it was much more impressive then I would have imagined.

Tokyo Marui – AKS74U

The electric Blowback mechanism that TM created is a very clean implementation. The fake bolt blows back and closes forward consistently, unlike the VFC AK Blowback system. Info on both the TM AK74MN and VFC AK Blowback AEG’s here if interested. The Blowback on this AKS74U seems to be more powerful when compared to the AK74MN and gives the feeling of recoil when fired. This could also be due to the AKS74U being shorter and less mass. Just seeing that recoil when someone else test fired it sold me right then and there. This is also why I’m excited about the new Blowback M4 TM recently announced.

Tokyo Marui – AKS74U

The new TM AK74 Series takes a different type of AK magazine from the older TM version 3 gearbox AK’s. While at first I thought this was unfair, now seeing how the new design works, I’m happy to see the improvement. TM redesigned the Armalite style magazines on the Type 89 so they would feed/fire all bb’s in the magazine. They followed that design to the Mac-10 AEP’s magazines and have carried it onto the AK74 series. <speculation>Making an educated guess, the new Blowback M4’s will also have these new redesigned magazines as well and will not be able to use older Armalite style mags.<speculation>

Tokyo Marui – AKS74U

Another trend/design that TM has carried forward since the M14 and Type 89 is the build using a metal body. And compared to Chinese aftermarket AEG bodies, the Japanese designed metal bodies are an excellent build are a good balance of strength to weight.

Tokyo Marui – AKS74U

Only downside so far is the small battery compartment which you have to cram an 8.4 Mini battery in. I have a few Lipos on order to see how well they work. Will post updates on this later.

Of course I had to add a few parts…

  • ACM/EBB – PBS1 Silencer
  • ACM/EBB – Rubber Buttpad
  • Classic Army – KFH

Going with LiPo. (Update 01/2009)

Tokyo Marui – AKS74U – LiPo

The 8.4v Mini batteries (Intellect), I’ve been using on this AK have been a real pain to use. They barely fit in the hand guard, and I’ve run across a few brands that won’t fit at all, due to how the wiring was soldered onto the pack, use of spacers and length of wiring to connectors. The rate of fire with an 8.4 mini with the recoil system seemed to be a little sluggish.

Tokyo Marui – AKS74U – LiPo

I purchased a couple of 7.4v 1500 Mah, 25C CONTINUOUS / 40C BURST batteries form onlybatterypacks.com. These are dimensionally slightly smaller then an 8.4 Mini Battery pack, so hand guard fitment is MUCH easier. Even though it’s voltage is lower then an 8.4 mini, its output rate is higher and does result in higher ROF. Don’t worry… even though my existing chrono’s don’t measure ROF, I have 1 incoming just to do that. Will keep updating this to the performance of LiPo usage in this specific AEG.

Tokyo Marui – AKS74U – w/ Laylax Battery Sling

A user on a local forum asked me how the AKS74U would look/work with a Laylax battery sling. Works well and it looks as if TM designed in a couple of gaps on the hand guard to accommodate external wiring!

Classic Army – P90TR Sportline

{simplegrade:4}
Manufacturer: Classic Army (Hong Kong)
Type: AEG (Automatic Electric Gun)
Date Acquired: 10/2008

Classic Army – P90TR Sportline

Spartan Imports was kind enough to send me down a Classic Army P90TR, to take a look at for review. My first AEG was a Tokyo Marui P90 originally bought for me by a friend in 2001. The TM P90 has functioned flawlessly since 2001, never having any problems and still shooting as strong today as 2001. So I’ve been interested to see how the CA P90 series performs.

Classic Army – P90TR Sportline

The CA – P90TR is in the Sportline Series and this specific one Spartan Imports sent, was their Value Package, which includes: battery, charger, shooting glasses and bb’s. These retailer from AEX for $170.00, so not a bad deal for a starter AEG package.

Tokyo Marui – P90 (Top) Classic Army – P90TR Sportline (Bottom)

Being a long time happy owner of the TM P90 it will be hard not to do some direct comparisons, so let me get some out of the way. But please keep in mind that the CA Sportline series is their budget line, so direct differences to TM in some cases are due simply to that.

The color of plastic used on both CA P90’s is close to the black used on the TM P90 RDS. The texture is rougher then the TM plastic though. Also you can feel the body seam that runs down the entire length of the CA P90. The body also flexes slightly compared to the TM.

Tokyo Marui – P90 (Top) Classic Army – P90TR Sportline (Bottom)

As I’ve noticed/reported in the past all CA Sportline’s (M4’s, MP5’s, AK’s) I’ve test fired, make an audible "boing" sound when fired in semi auto. Seems to be something common with all Sportline internals. But their ROF is good and 310-320 fps is great for an "out of the box" P90. The 300 round high cap mag supplied by CA is a better performer then the TM P90 High Cap. 1 full wind of the CA P90 High Cap will power almost the entire magazine. Only time will tell on durability though.

Classic Army – P90TR Sportline

Of course I couldn’t just leave the CA P90TR stock. The CA P90 takes most parts made for the TM P90 so far. Added the following mods:

  • NitroVo – P90 Rail
  • KM/Head 1950 – Light Weight (245mm, 14mm+/-) Silencer
  • Mosquito Molds – Mini Launcher
  • AMP Tactical – AP Reddot
  • Knight’s – 30mm "L" mount
