Rhino Airsoft – Hong Kong

Rhino Airsoft
Hong Kong

I’ve know of the owner Ting from his inital venture, Russian Mania Workshop, due to being a News Moderator on Arnie’s. But I just personally started working with him recently.

Rhino Airsoft looks to be another solid choice for a Hong kong based airsoft retailer. Ting has been in the Hong Kong airsoft community for many years, and offers some uniquue items on site.

Communication was good. Order placed/shipped on 08/31 and received 09/10.

Airsoft Park – China

Airsoft Park
China

Initially purchased from them in August 2009.

Looks to be a competitor to EB Airsoft.

  • Shipping is included with all prices
  • Selling of unlicensed copies of products (Including Magpul PTS)
  • Located in China

Communication was good. Order placed/shipped on 08/21 and received 09/04.

PX Airsoft – Hong Kong

PX Airsoft
Hong Kong

Initially purchased from them in August 2009.

Another good Hong Kong retailer. They seem to have a unique product mix. Ordered some small quantity, low dollar amount parts, but service was as good as if I had a larger order. Order placed on 08/02 and shipped 08/05.

Anime Airsoft – Poseidon’s Offerings

When Poseidon, Japan releases something, it’s always sad to see,, the first "knee jerK" comment is, "It’s from Ghost in the Shell". With just a little research of the Poseidon site itself, they tell you what they modeled their kits after, and in most cases it’s NOT GITS.

The next thought is: "Does accuracy really matter?" "It’s just a fictional gun to begin with." To some it really doesn’t matter, but the simple answer is, Poseidon has already posted what series things belong to or not.

Another way to look at it is, some people believe slapping a longer barrel/front end and thumbhole stock on an AK makes it a SVD Dragonuv. Some people know the difference between an AK and Dragonuv, and would rather have a replica of a true Dragonuv. Being "correct" is a matter of perspective since everything is a replica.

A quick back grounder on Poseidon, Japan. Poseidon, Japan is a small model shop. Their name comes from Poseidon Heavy Industries, which is a fictional multinational corporation (Japan) from the Masamune Shirow anime universe.

Below is a chart of all of Poseidon’s Weapon releases and who/what they are related to. This info comes directly from Poseidon.

Intel – AEX L.A. – 04.24.08

I’m going to combine my last couple of visits in 1 post.

04/25/2008

The Star SCAR with EGLM made an appearence!

AEX received a Star SCAR in stock with EGLM today, and of course, I had to not only test the Star Scar out, but had to test fire the EGLM on all the different SCARS; )

Star SCAR
The build was pretty rough when compared to both VFC and CA. Star seemed to have copied the VFC with the rear battery hinge contacts. this specific SCAR had a very loose lower rail. Which unfortunately made the EGLM feel "wobbly" on the Star SCAR. The Star SCAR fired at around 355 fps, and gearbox sounded nice a strong.

 Star EGLM
The Star SCAR EGLM can fire 40mm airsoft grenades. It sides open in much the same way as an under slung M203 style launcher. But when launcher is fully opened, you can cant the launcher tube left or right to aid in grenade insertion. The build is mostly plastic. The trigger placement is great where you can still engage the trigger on the SCAR itself and the launcher simultaneously.

The Launcher attaches to the lower rail of the SCAR. The 2 side Quick Detach levers are actually more like side pressure levers. There are 2 threaded set screw holes which actually secure the launcher to the lower rail. it works perfectly on the Star and VFC SCARs, but the set screws do not line up correctly on a CA SCARs.

Star EGLM Mounted on a VFC SCAR
Mounting and fit were extremely easy on a VFC SCAR.
Star EGLM Mounted on a CA SCAR
Mounting and fit were slightly "off" on the CA SCAR series. As mentioned above, the set screw holes were off on the CA Scar rails. We could only use the QD pressure side levers to secure the launcher. The magwell also didn’t line up 100%, so you had to "wiggle" the magazines in place.

It was a great day for AK variants at the shop!

Realsword – Type 56
The Realsword AK is the closest airsoft replica I’ve held, when I directly compare it to my Norinco AK. You can see and feel where they used real AK parts modified for airsoft use. The magazines seem to be gutted real magazine, with 150 round midcap internals. The Type 56 shoots around 310 fps with .20’s. The gearbox/motor noise is noticeably more "muffled" then in other AK AEG’s.

USCM’s – GWS Bizon
USCM is a customer and friend of AEX. He definitely likes the more rare airsoft weapons. These guns that I label as his are NOT for sale at AEX, but he does bring them by to let us check them out which is greatly appreciated.

About a month ago he dropped of his GWS Bizon, for the AEX techs to do some work on. I was extremely impressed with the overall build of this GWS AEG. I’ve had quality issues with GWS parts I’ve purchased on my own, but this fully built GWS AEG is solid. That under slung tube style magazine holds 750 rounds.

USCM’s – TSI Galil SAR
USCM brought by 2 of his TSI Armories Galils. TSI is a U.S. based airsoft "manufacturer". Not sure what internals they used, but their externals and build are very nice.

The SAR is a Medium sized Galil. Metal body with polymer furniture. The TSI build everything is put together very well. 1 neat feature is flip up night sights which work in conjunction with iron sights.

USCM’s – TSI Galil MAR
USMC also brought by his Galil MAR. The MAR, also known as the Micro Galil is as SMG sized Galil. Metal body with polymer furniture. The TSI build everything is put together very well just as with the SAR mentioned above.

Intel – AEX L.A. – 03.18.08

Haven’t had too much to report on recently. But this evenings visit was full of some nice surprises.

Magpul – Goodies

I usually never post what I score when I got to AEX, But since these are for a future project, I haven’t yet decided on, thought it be good to show them. The new Magpul PTS metal bodies are insanely nice. Trades are stamped into the body itself and trigger guard is integrated into the body. The CTR and MIAD in Flat Dark Earth color are not too far off the metal body which was a nice surprise.

Will post more as project progresses.

Classic Army – SCAR-H

This is the slightly larger CA SCAR that uses an SR-25 (7.62×51) size magazine. While this make no really difference in airsoft, except cosmetically, it’s a beefier feeling CA SCAR. But notice the trademarks. They’re not "Classic Army" trades any more.

Tokyo Marui – AK74MN

It was a little funny. Every time the TM AK74MN was placed back on the display rack, it would blend in with all the M4’s and M16’s and make it hard to find. It’s another solid Tokyo Marui build. This is a "Blowback AEG" (i.e. a fake bolt will cycle each shot). The fake bolt cycle was a bit short, but it worked flawlessly. Battery compartment is in the fore grip and will accommodate a mini type battery. The butt stock will fold over the the left as well, but not with a scope attached. FPS results averaged 300fps with .20 bbs.
VFC – AIMS

Honestly, I’m not sure why people like this AK except for the odd looks. The "coat hanger" stock and "donkey dick" fore grip just didn’t feel comfortable. But this is a "Blowback AEG" (i.e. a fake bolt will cycle each shot. You kinda see a trend here?). The one downside to the VFC model specifically is the fake bolt would not reset to the closed position each shot. Sometime it would stay half or partially open after a shot. FPS results were OK averaging 340 with .20 bbs.

King Arms – Troy Series

I haven’t been a big fan of King Arms products as of late. But their Troy series is quite impressive. I still question the workmanship of the internals, but these AEGs fired between 320-340 fps with .20 bb’s. externally, expect for a misspelling on the trademarks, the externals are solid. The fake bolt catch is a nice feature as well. But these are bargains compared to piecing your own Troy/Vltor/Tango Down airsoft parts together.

Classic Army – New Sportlines

2 new Classic Army Sportlines came into AEX. An MP5 A2 SEF and an M15A4. They are what you expect weight wise form a plastic bodied AEG. The MP4 was lighter then a TM MP5, but both seemed to be solid builds. Both only come in the value packs, which include: Sling, Shooting Glasses, Battery, Charger and BB’s. Still a great deal for a starter AEG @ $160.00.

Intel – AEX L.A. – 11.06.07

A few more tidbits o’ info.

Trigger Happy – M240

Deceptively light at around 10 lbs, but rock solid in build, the Trigger Happy M240 is an awesome AEG. It utilizes the VFC MK43 gearbox and shoots around 360 fps with .20’s.

Take down and features operate very closely to how a real M240 breaks down. Barrel assembly is easily removed to give acces to an anodized hop-up dial.

Tokyo Marui – Detonics

I’ve never been a big fan of compact handguns, but since it’s a Tokyo Marui and a new release, it was worth checking out.

I was suprised to see how compact the TM Detonics is compared to the Marushin Detonics.. The TM version is tiny.

It was a cooler evening in Socal and this chrono’d around 265 fps on Green Gas.

Maruzen – MP5K Charger

Open bolt gas blow back fun… But 134a only if you want to keep it reliable.

With 134a it single shot at around 220fps. Full auto it dropped down to 180fps ;(

Retailer/Manufacturer – Larue Tactical – USA

{simplegrade:5}
LaRue Tactical
USA

LaRue Tactical out of Texas is primarily a Real Steel supplier of AR Accessories. But their innovative designs, and customer service will interest the avid airsofter. I’ve made a few purchases form LaRue over the last year. Items such as:

LaRue Tactical – 30mm Pivot Mount w/ Hendsholt 2.5 Magnifier

LaRue Tactical – M68 Cantilever Mount

LaRue Tactical – ECOS-C EOTech Mount

The LaRue quality is top notch and their products all seem to have some thought put behind the design. For example the LaRue Tactical – 30mm Pivot Mount w/ Hendsholt 2.5 Magnifier is an under $200 solution which included mount and optics. Works great and a fraction of the cost of Aimpoint’s or Eotech’s magnifier solutions. The LaRue Tactical – ECOS-C EOTech Mount not only gives your EOTech a QD Lever Throw mounting solution, the rear riser is the perfect height for an Aimpoint Magnifier or any low mount NV device.

And a nice holiday surprise LaRue sent was:

LaRue Tactical – 2007 Holiday Dillio/Field Survival Device/Xmas Ornament

Ebaybanned / EB Airsoft – China

Ebaybanned / EBAirsoft
China

Purchased initially when the site opened in Oct 2007.

This is a mainland China retailer and ALL prices on the site include International shipping. Ordered on Oct 2nd, shipment received Oct 5th. Ordered a couple of MC Combat Shirts, MC Range Vest, MC Waist Pack and M900A (Have to equip the posse for Halloween @ Disneyworld). Quality is Chinese copy level, so on par for what you are paying for.

2 weeks later I got an email from Ebaybanned.com stating they had a new version of the MC Combat shirt shortly after my first order with them shipped. It was in their usual Chinglish, so I took it as a little marketing email on their end. Turns out the email was stating they were going to send me the new version of the MC Combat Shirt. The 1st generation had no velcro on the sleeves for patches. 2nd generation does and uses different material for the torso of the shirt. I was pleasantly surprised when I received 2 replacement shirts today at no charge and not by any request on my end.

Around Aug 2008, Ebaybanned did a little restructuring and hired a few more people. Their turn around times stretched out to 3-4 weeks. Turn around times seem to be getting better in 2009. Averaging about 2 weeks now.

Overall, I’ve placed 20+ orders to date. Just be patient and it’s all good.
