Every geardo at some time will have to own something created by John Willis and this was the time for me to get the Mookie War Rig – Light. AEX recently got a limited run of these chest rigs in stock.

The original MWR was custom developed for direct action warfare for some Navy SEALs and private contractors. This Light version of the MWR is perfect for rapid deployment and low profile usage (can be worn under a jacket) and is much more comfortable and lightweight.

The MWR-Light features:

  • 4 x single magazine pouches with adjustable flaps
  • In addition to being adjustable to fit everything from an M4 mag with Magpuls to an AK mag, the removable pouch flaps are Velcro and snap secured and have built in speed pull tabs
  • Side PALS webbing to fit accessory pouches or more mag pouches as needed
  • Quick release padded shoulder pads for comfort and fast egress
  • Elastic tube on right shoulder strap for hydration tube or comm system wire routing.
  • Double layer construction
  • Zippered main compartment pouch with internal PALS webbing that can be used for an internal pistol holster like the Eagle G-Code or Blackhawk CQC holster.

I was fortunate to attend the 2008 Shotshow in Las Vegas and got to meet the Magpul people directly. Great guys and innovative affordable products. Of course my biggest interest was their Magpul PTS (Professional Training & Simulation Division, a.k.a. airsoft) product line.

The Pros
The body itself is a beautiful build. A slightly textured, tactile Flat Dark Earth coating. The body has clean fire control markings and unique serial number. All logos are stamped into the metal. The FDE color is close to other Magpul FDE components, but still not a dead on match due to materials being coated.

The Cons
I originally wanted to use a CA Sportline as the internals, but the CA Sportline gearbox shell, had a bit too much material in on the rear of the gearbox and thus would not fit. Body pin and trigger pin holes would not line up. I got another TM M4 Carbine (New Version) to use as this AEG’s internals. The TM gearbox needed to have a highpoint in the spine dremelled off, but it ended up fitting, but it was a very tight fit. The supplied dust cover would not close all the way when the gearbox was installed and fake internal bolt plate would bind the hopup in place. Luckily I had enough spare parts to fix these problems, but this wasn’t an "easy" body swap to say the least.

The ATS Tactical Warbelt is a not a belt by itself. It similar to additional belt padding with 3 rows of PALs webbing. The ATS Warbelt will work with most tactical belts and is designed to work with drop leg hangers Any drop leg holster or modular panels will attach to the belt as usual. There are openings in the ATS Warbelt to accommodate this usage. The Warbelt also includes separate suspender loops.

I kept coming across these LED Bulb assemblies on Ebay. I already own an Inova T2 LED and Surefire G2 LED and have been more then happy with their performance.

These assemblies go for about $20.00 shipped from Hong Kong and claim a 270 lumen output, it was an affordable experiment waiting to be paypal’d.

Received the LED assembly about 5 days after payment. The assembly comes with 2 contact springs. The large outer one may need to be removed to fit into some lights. But it’s a drop in fit. This assembly fit and functioned in all my Surefire G2’s and 6p’s as well as my G&P Surefire clones.

So is it really 270 Lumens??? I fitted the Q5 into 1 of my Surefire G2’s and plopped new CR123a’s on all lights (Gah…exspensive). Lights were about 15 feet from wall.

Definitely an affordable option for those who already own incandescent tactical lights. Lumen output is very impressive. Will report later on battery life and durability.

I ended up buying 3 full lights, that use this same bulb assembly for my shop. All metal fabrication, but not a Surefire compatible body. Although you can still swap the bulb assemblies around.

The King Arms – X-47 AK Rail System is an all aluminum rail system which is a replica of the TDI rail system used on BHI SOPMOD AK series. I intalled this on my AK74 SOPMOD project.

The King Arms X-47 is a CNC machined aluminum rail system. It has full X-47 markings and shipped with TDI replica rail covers. It is lighter in weight then my First Factory X47 Rail but is very comparable in buidl quality.There were some slgiht fitting issues, but they easily worked itself out.

How the Speed Clip works:

  • Place the pouch so its webbing aligns with spaces between the webbing on the platform

RAP4 – Land Warrior Video Camera System

The rap4.com guys were kind enough to send over 1 of their Land Warrior System Wireless Camera systems (LWSC).

The Unit itself is a self contained video camera system. Camera, AA Batteries and SD Card are contained in 1 water proof unit. It also has a Mini USB and AV Out ports and comes with related cables. It can take up to a 2Gig SD Card and can record 640×480 30frames per second video for about 1 hour of recording. The Camera also has a built in microphone.

The RAP4 LWSC can mount to any 20mm rail system. Rap4 also includes a universal barrel mount kit, for other applications. The unit can be physically rotated in the mount to record at the proper angle, or you can rotate the video later in your favorite video editing program.

The cameras controls are simple to use. But for initial setup I did need to reference the manual, but that holds true for me for most multi-function devices with limited buttons. When hooked up via Mini USB to your computer, the camera acts as an external storage device, giving you direct access to your avi files.

The video format this records in is avi (for lack of a more detailed explanation), so it should be readable/editable by numerous systems/software.
