Manufacturer: Magpul PTS (Hong Kong)
Type: AEG
Spartan Imports was kind enough to send me a Magpul PTS – ACR Masada prototype to take a more in depth look at. Granted I only had it for a day, but it gave me a bit more time then I had at Shotshow 2010. There are still a few specifics that will not be covered here, waiting for confirmation on production model.
The Magpul PTS – ACR Masada has an aluminum upper receiver with polymer based lower and furniture. A metal RIS, sliding stock and longer QD barrel assemblies will all be available upon product release. The PMAG pictured is 1 of my personal ones. Production Masadas will ship with a midcap PMAG with out PMAG Ranger Plate.
The Masada is extremely easy to strip without the use of tools. All frame pins are body captured. The outer barrel assembly is QD (quick detachable) and includes inner and outer barrel, hop bucking and fake piston all in 1 unit. This will make barrel swap extremely fast.
With this new type of QD barrel system, the hop-up is different from a normal AEG. The hop-up adjustment mechanism and nub are held captive in the upper receiver
The charging handle locks back for access to the hop up mechanism and depressing the ambi bolt release in the front of the trigger guard closes the fake bolt.
To the rear of the gearbox is quick change access to the gearbox spring. At this time we are working on a more in depth review focused on the Magpul PTS – ACR Masada gearbox, but we can confirm it has a caged motor.
More info coming soon! Stay tuned!
Behind the DW Scenes – ACR Masada and my bored Kuma…
Received Production ACR Masada – 10/2010
Just picked up the production ACR recently in the FDE (Flat Dark Earth) color. A very solid build as with the prototype.
1 issues I’ve had is it seems to only like the latest Magpul PTS PMAGs and EMAGs. I’ve been having issues where the original PTS PMAGs and normal M16 style airsoft magazines will not lock in place with the magazine release. If I hold the magazines in place, they will misfeed. Haven’t found a solution yet, but fortunately I have ample supply of the latest PTS Magazines.
I’ve switched the spring out a few times with the quick change spring function and it works as advertised.
Manufacturer: First Factory (Japan)
Type: Rear Stock
First Factory – Type 89 EBR Stock
Outside of Japan the Tokyo Marui – JGSDF Type 89 wasn’t a big seller. So it’s taken a while for there to be accessories for this AEG. Frontier Japan was the first to create 3rd party accessories and recently First Factory came out with a few. I opted for the First Factory – EBR style stock for the Type 89.
First Factory – Type 89 EBR Stock
The First Factory – Type 89 EBR stock is mostly metal. It has 6 sliding positions and 9 adjustments for height. The cheek rest in the lowest position sits higher then the original solid stock, so it may be harder to use the iron sights after install.

Manufacturer: Classic Army (Hong Kong)
Type: AEG (Automatic Electric Gun)
Spartan Imports was kind enough to send me a working prototype of their soon to be released, Classic Army- LWRC PSD. This is a replica of the LWRC – PSD 6.8 Cal rifle in their MRE (Multi Region Earth) color.
The CA – LWRC PSD has an all metal lower and upper. The lower has the licensed trade stamped on the left side and a laser marked UID on the right. All marking on the upper are laser marked. The MRE color is darker and more brown then a Magpul FDE, but the color works well with most FDE, CB or Khaki accessories I’ve match it up with. CA has done a great job on this replica, even down to the fake short stroke piston.
The CA -LWRC PSD replica should be shipping with a Magpul PTS MOE Stock and Pistol Grip. Not sure yet on if it will ship with a PMAG or a 300 Round CA High Cap as the previous CA-LWRC M6 release. It will have the Troy Battle Sight style BUIS.
Internally this is a CA – ABS (Auto Blow Back System). It functions as advertised and this model averaged 340 fps. The PSD is rear wired for use with a stock tube compatible battery. I used a Firefox 11.1v 1200Mah battery with no issues.

A very in depth review of the entire OTB line from our pals Military Morons: http://www.militarymorons.com/equipment/footwear2.html#otb
Unlike past years, when I (ORCA) was the only 1 going to the SHOT Show to report on waht’s going on. This year DIGITALWastelands/Airsoftmonkey had a crew of people reporting on SHOT. uscmCorps, Ning and Wedge were out at the show with better cameras and more energy/time then I had on the show floor! Many thanks for their contributions!
Manufacturer: Magpul (USA)
Type: Accessory
Magpul PTS – AFG (Angled Fore Grip) is different then a vertical fore grip as it puts your hand in a different position on the fore grip For airsoft, this device really boils down to personal preference. I’ve been using a TDI Stubby in a "Thumb Break Grip" for a while now. The AFG is more comfortable for me personally.
The Magpul AFG ships with am interchangeable finger stop and smooth grip insert.
The AFG accommodates this type of grip by design.
Here’s a comparison of the accessory aided fore grip types.
Magpul’s, Dr. Drakes description of the AFG:
The Magpul AFG puts the hand in a position called supination. Supination occurs when the hand is held with the palm facing up and the knuckles towards the ground. This puts the musculus supinator muscles in extension with most weapon movement coming from the distal radioulnar articulation. (wrist joint) With weapon articulation coming from the wrist, the muscles being in extention, and the supination muscles being stronger than pronation muscles the AFG actually reduces shooter fatigue and enhances point control like no other firearm grip on the market.
Manufacturer: Magpul-PTS
Type: Accessory
The Magpul PTS, B.A.D. Lever is a device that allows an operator to disengage the bolt catch on an AR style lower with their trigger finger. Airsoft wise, this will only functionally work on airsoft rifles that utilize the bolt catch. Magpul PTS’ description only list Systema PTW’s and WE GBBR’s as what this device will work on. I am happy to report, they also work on TM SOPMOD/SOCOM recoil engine AEG’s. I will test this on other AEG’s with functioning bolt catches as I come across them.
Magpul’s description of the B.A.D. Lever:
Developed from the operational experience of the Magpul? Dynamics team, the B.A.D. Lever? (Battery Assist Device) is designed to considerably improve the speed and efficiency of the AR15/M16 bolt catch. The B.A.D. Lever? quickly addresses reloading and malfunction clearance shortcomings of AR15/M16 platforms by extending a paddle to the right side of the weapon, allowing manipulation of the bolt stop from the fire control/ready position with the right-hand trigger finger.
Manufacturer: Tokyo Marui (Japan)
Type: Gas Blow Back
Date Acquired: 1/2010
Tokyo Marui – Desert Warrior 4.3
The Tokyo Marui , Desert Warrior 4.3 was loosley modeled after the Kimber Desert Warrior, but with some noticeable differences. This GBB is the shorter barrelled 4.3 and has a removable rail system. While it’s markings, OPS-Tactical are the same as the TM High Capa series, this is a single stack, 1911 frame similar to the TM M.E.U.
Tokyo Marui – Desert Warrior 4.3
As with most TM GBB’s, the Desert warrior is a high quality build and is a great performer straight out of the box. Handles Green Gas no problem. Most parts are TM 1911 compatible/interchangeable.
